Advanced Cryptography

Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Informatics, Péter Sziklai

The main purpose of these lecture notes is to present various topics of cryptography and security engineering beyond the scope of the widely-known basic studies. A little familiarity in computer science and cryptography is supposed on the readers’ part but the necessary mathematical or algorithmic background is presented or cited. The different aspects cover the spectrum from theoretical and applied mathematics to economics. We recommend these lecture notes to anyone who is interested in the background behind several security mechanisms or seeks extended knowledge in advanced cryptographic schemes. Computer scientists, engineers, mathematicians or programmers can effectively learn and understand the content of the book. The textbook contains chapters from the following main topics: introduction to security, multiple threats and defenses, classical cryptography, randomness, symmetric and asymmetric cryptography and last but not least cryptographic primitives. This last one constitutes the core of the material covering for example zero-knowledge proofs, secure multiparty computation and lattice based cryptographic methods.

Advanced Functional Programming

Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Informatics, Gábor János Páli , Zoltán Horváth

After completing this course, you should understand the following concepts:Expressions (function application, variables, literals, Booleans, lists, tuples, characters).Function definitions (patterns, guards, recursion, local definitions).Type of expressions and functions (function type, basic types, type of lists and tuples, parametric and ad-hoc polymorphism, type classes).Higher-order functions (sections, lambda expression, function composition, folds).Datatypes (type synonyms, parametric and recursive algebraic datatypes).Higher-order types (kinds), existential types.Type classes (type classes and instances).Embedded domain-specific languages (shallow and deep embedding).Monadic programming (evaluation of monads, basic monad types, monad transformers).Parallel and distributed programming, tasks. Implementation of functional programs.

Advanced Programming Languages

The Advanced Programming Languages introduces students to the main constructs of contemporary programming languages andgives an overview of the fundamental concepts and design principles of programming languages. The book gives familiarity with the key concepts underlying modern programming languages through a comparison of severalprogramming languages concerning lexical elements, built-in data types, composite types, statements, iterators, subprograms (parameter passing, scope, block structure, etc.), support of user defined abstract data types, generic, exception handling, correctness, support of OOP (inheritance - single, multiple) and concurrency.Separate chapters introduce the reader to functional and logical paradigms.

Agricultural Policy

University of Debrecen Centre for Agricultural and Applied Economic Sciences, József Popp

In this book we provide a detailed overview of the sustainable agriculture and rural development, the agricultural policy of the EU, as well as an analysis of the relationships between globalization and trade liberalization. As the chapters relate to the global trade liberalization issues, a special focus is concentrated on the non-trade elements of the current WTO negotiations, especially on the criterion of multifunctional agriculture. In this context the relationships of production and other functions of the agriculture are studied. By analyzing the reforms of the CAP students will learn about the aims, measures, actual and prospective impacts of the adopted reforms. In depth learning about rural development measures enables students to make realistic evaluation of the expected rural development results. Hungary is a Member State of the EU, therefore the operation of international policies in agriculture should be studied carefully, as the changes of these policies influence and determine the scope of both the European and national agricultural policy. Hungary, being a net-exporter in agricultural trade, has to (should) adjust to the changes occurring in parallel to the further trade liberalization in international agricultural policies. Such are the WTO agreements that influenced and influences the CAP. The studied topics have expansive relevant international literature and there are several readings available on the EU’s agricultural policy by Hungarian authors, as well. This book provides knowledge about the concept and process of agricultural trade liberalization, the importance of sustainable agriculture, the interrelation of international agricultural policies, and detailed introduction of multifunctional agriculture. The author hopes that all of his experiences gained in the education home and abroad are transformed into a useful tool in this book, and that both lecturers and students will find it a helpful reading.
